Dubai BioTech City - Overview:
The Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park also spells life. It is the world's first free zone dedicated to the life science industry launched in February 2005. As fostered in its 7-point mission, the 22-million sq ft DuBiotech will be the regional center of excellence in biotechnology, bridging research, education and industry through national and international collaboration. Besides its tax free environment, DuBiotech has set up the necessary infrastructure for life science companies to conduct activities within the Park, from waste management to custom support services for logistics activities and centralized facilities for research and development. Among its facilities and offerings are:
- University - providing graduate programs in life sciences
- Bio-Tigania - a continuing education institute conducting training courses and certifications
- Core and shell offices to executive offices, showroom locations, boutiques and retail space
- Laboratory building space for companies engaged in research and development
- Pre-built units for storage, distribution and light manufacturing for pharmaceuticals, analytical and animal facilities and Cell and tissue culture facilities

And inspired by its own vision to create a city within a city,' DuBiotech also features a hotel, residential facilities, grade schools, hospitals, leisure centers and retail areas. It has a broad range of licensing categories and activities under which companies are allowed to perform within the Park: therapeutics; diagnostics and analysis; agricultural, forestry, horticulture and food; environment; specialty supplies; equipment; life science and biomedical associations (non-profit).
It operates under a streamlined regulatory framework that maintains oversight and control over activities and procedures within the Park. Its Codes of Practice, observed within the confine of cultural values and morals of the region are addressed to professionally: general regulations; manufacturing & laboratory practices; environment, health and safety; intellectual property; clinical trials, research and other types of research; bioethics and laboratory accreditation.
Staying at the forefront of science is essential in the evolving life science industry. Hence, the Science Affairs department employs a dedicated team of scientists with extensive expertise in various life science disciplines to take charge of the scientific component of the Park strategy, and to implement mechanisms for promoting life science in the UAE and the region.
