Launched in 2001, project Palm Jumeirah is one of the major undertakings that triggered real estate boom in Dubai. The 5-kilometer by 5-kilometer, man-made island was initiated to alleviate the problem of Dubai's beach shortage. And, Palm Jumeirah has fulfilled requirements by doubling the emirate's existing coastline; it is also set to double the number of beachfront hotels in Dubai. Expected to usher in 25,000 hotel guests, and 20,000 visitors a day, the island offers an unprecedented mix of residential, hospitality, retail, leisure and entertainment options.
Shaped like a palm tree, the Palm Jumeirah is an engineering marvel that has turned an elusive dream into reality. Its residential, retail and hospitality segments are laid out primarily on the Trunk, the Fronds and the Crescent. The first residents of the Palm moved into 4,000 villas and apartments, completed as part of Phase I at the end of 2006.
It will offer more than 32 beachfront hotels, marinas, water-theme parks as well as a purpose built theater for Cirque du Soleil.
